Features in the S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra
With so many phones on the market, it's hard to know which one is best. There are a lot of buzz words floating around when it comes to technology, so we're here to break them down and tell you everything you need to know about the S23 Series and what is included.
Build
Like most mobile phones these days, they've got to be big to make an impact, and these phones make an impact. The S23 is 6.1 inches, the S23+ is 6.6 inches and the S23 Ultra is 6.8 inches.
The S23 is built using a scratch resistant aluminum frame and gorilla glass on the front and back that can help protect your device against any accidental drops and breaks. What really makes this significant is both the aluminium and glass have been made using recycled materials – always a tick in our book.
All models in the S23 range has an IP68 dust and water resistance, which can withstand water submersion down to 1.5 metres and for up to 30 minutes. Unfortunately, like a lot of modern mobiles, a 3.5mm headphone jack is not included, so to listen to music or watch videos, you'll need to connect using your wireless earbuds or headphones.
Adding something a little special and to help work with the enormous screen, the S23 Ultra also comes with a stylus.
All three models come with four base colours for you to choose from: Cream, Phantom Black, Green and Lavender.

Display
Samsung has included the standard 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution display in the Galaxy S23, which is certainly not a bad thing, as it is very high-resolution and equal with many other devices on the market.
They have upped their game with the 4K 60fps, and 120Hz scroll with super HDR screen. To break that down, the screen can scroll through 60 frames per second (fps) and refreshes the screen 120 times per second without lag so you can watch, read and call with ease. On top of this, it has a high dynamic range (HDR) to view imagery and visuals with distinct colours and tones to get the full picture.
The phones come with adaptive visibility, to present optimal colouring and brightness whether you're in a dark room or outside on a sunny day.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 range also uses an Eye Comfort Shield to help protect the eyes during extended usage and prevent them from getting too tired.
Camera
Everyone wants the best camera built-in to their phones – it practically kills two birds with one stone. Thankfully, the S23 range fulfills all the requirements needed to capture the perfect picture.
On the S23 and S23+, there are three exterior cameras. The first on top is a 12MP ultra wide camera, which helps capture as much as possible on screen. The middle camera is a 50MP pro-grade wide-angle camera that is able to capture all your moments and memories with clarity and minimal blur. The bottom camera is a 10MP x3 optical zoom telescopic camera that helps you zoom in and take clear photos no matter how far away.
The 'selfie camera' is a 12MP wide camera with the ability to capture photos and videos in a 4K resolution. Your Instagram feed and TikTok account will never look better.
The S23 Ultra has the same interior camera as well as the top, exterior camera, but has some slight differences. The middle, wide-angle camera has a 200MP camera which is a huge upgrade and will really make a difference in your images. The bottom telescopic camera is also higher with x10 optical zoom. Best of all, there is an additional camera next to the middle, wide-angle camera that is a second telescopic camera with x3 optical zoom.
Nightography
Nightography is a feature that is used in earlier models to help take clearer and brighter pictures in a darker setting. While not new, it is certainly improved in the S23.
For some background, the nightography setting uses sensors that enlarges pixels and groups them together to pull light in to take the best and clearest pictures. This grouping together helps capture more natural light from your surroundings and make sharper quality images.
This feature has been upgrade for the S23 using AI technology to improve the sensors on the selfie camera. It also uses a new hi-res RAW format that can aid in capturing clearer images in lower light, but not with people as the subject. For example, if you are taking a photo of the moon, it will draw light from the stars to get that clearer image.
Battery
There are three different non-removable batteries for each of the three S23 models: a 3,900 mAh battery for the S23, a 4,700 mAh battery for the S23+ and a 5,000 mAh battery for the S23 Ultra.
Samsung does not provide an exact battery life in time, however the website reads that it can last 22 hours in video playback and research shows that the S23's 3,900 mAh can last up to 1.5 days.
Functionality
There is a lot of space to play with on the S23 range to save pictures, play games and download to your heart's content. Both the S23 and S23+ come with 8GB of RAM, while the S23 Ultra comes with 12GB of RAM.
To help make your usage of the phone as easy and simple as possible, Samsung has used a new and upgraded process called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This processor has been designed specifically for Samsung to avoid lag and make the phone move and feel smoother when using no matter what you are using it for.
Apps and special features
There are also several new and improved functions within the device. Like previous devices, you can also track health and fitness with your S23 when paired with a Galaxy Watch 5. This feature follows your sleep, exercise and body composition to help you become the healthiest you can be.
You can also improve your workflow with a feature to link together your PC with your S23 to work simultaneously on the same project on both devices. You'll be able to use your mouse, write and drag and drop items between your phone and computer, saving yourself from having to send content to yourself and re-download on a separate device – it's finally all together and in one place.
One of the most interesting innovations with the S23 is the photo remaster function. While this phone can take clean images, older phones (and cameras for that matter) might not have been able to. You will now be able to take images from within your gallery and enhance their brightness and improve clarity no matter what they were taken on and when.
Security
In this day and age, we're all worried about cyber safety and keeping our data secure. Like previous phones, the S23 range comes with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor only you can access easily and quickly. However, there have been improvements to the security that have changed from previous phones.
One new update is the change to Samsung Pay. It is now known as Samsung Wallet. Not only are your card payments safe, but they will also safely store other essential items digitally including identification, keys and tickets.
On top of this, the S23 range comes with four software updates already embedded without needing to download them at a later date as well as five years worth of security software patches. So you can feel safe knowing your data and details will be safe on your phone for the next five years.
